Useless Business Cards

I've decided not to do business cards as I feel like it is a dying media, as a designer in the modern era with platforms such as intagram, twitter, facebook etc I don't think you need them.  These platforms connect you to a much wider audience and isn't limited by who you meet if your lucky, the chances of you meeting someone high up in the design industry is very unlikely unless you produce something one of a kind or if you're lucky enough to know someone that knows someone.  However with platforms such as instagram you can post online your work that will not reach people around you but also people across the globe, not only can you reach a much wider audience but you can also follow and tag other famous designers in your post. This will give them a notification so they will end up seeing your work and then they can decided to respond, majority of the time you will get a response because everyone always has their phone on them even in the bathroom. Not only can you connect with other designers but you can also gain a following from your work, social medias like these can allow people to follow you and keep up to date with your work. As long as you are constantly updating your work on instagram you should be able to build a decent following of fans and potential clients, when you gain a large amount of followers other companies will take notice. This is a great way for big companies that work in your industry to come to you with advertising and brand deals, for example if you gain a popularity for your illustrations companies that work with illustration equipment will approach you to advertise their equipment. You wouldn't get the type of opportunities that you can gain from online platforms, these are some of the main reasons why I think you no longer need a business card.
